Do not strain, do not labour; love and adore, and give God time in silence to speak to and draw the soul…’ This approach to prayer was at the heart of Fr Gilbert Shaw’s teaching. He recommended the simple repetition of a phrase to let the Holy Spirit work through the idea expressed. If the prayers in this book are used unhurriedly, phrase by phrase, they can bring us to a place of stillness where God speaks to us.
