Esther de Waal uses prayers and blessings collected from the oral tradition of the fishing and farming people of the Hebrides, a group of islands off the west coast of Scotland, to evoke a vision of the wholeness of life. These songs are shot through with an awareness of God’s presence. God can be found close at hand, under our very roofs. We are encouraged to make the prayers our own and to speak to God, the angels and the saints with simplicity and candour.
